We offer nonprofit board development and training to build equitable, empowered leadership.

Recruit and train diverse nonprofit board members.

We lead proven processes that build ownership and engage board and team members with a variety of strengths and interests.

  • We share tools to help you put equity at the center of your organization so that you can recruit board members from diverse backgrounds who bring multiple perspectives to the board table.

  • We’ve worked on the “funder side” of the table and bring our fundraising expertise to help your board feel empowered to raise money for your organization.

  • We bring our deep expertise in designing and facilitating participatory, inclusive conversations and train others to do this to make board meetings more engaging.

Our board development process may include the following:

  • Board and Committee meeting assessment and feedback along with training on designing better meetings in the future

Mark Van Lue, SGV Habitat for Humanity

“Renee's clear, impactful process moved our board's work forward significantly. Her facilitation deepened board ownership of areas such as succession planning, risk management and fundraising. Her process helped board members explore their roles more deeply, resulting in a plan to put those roles into concrete agenda items for the coming year. Afterwards, board members commented that this process was pivotal for the board.”

Joy Delizo-Osborne, Student Achievement Partners

“The Ross Collective’s process supported SAP to successfully make the shift from an advisory board to a governance board. We appreciated the level of productivity in our time together, the efficiency of what we discussed - and the spaciousness to have meaningful discussions together about SAP’s work. We also appreciated the flexibility to pivot with the group and shift the agenda based on emerging needs.”

Richard Nicoli, Mount Diablo Interpretive Association

“Renee designed and facilitated a virtual strategic planning retreat that received excellent feedback from our board. New and continuing board members deepened their knowledge and connection to the work, we had time in small group breakouts to talk through plans for the coming year and we emerged with a clear plan for the board. One director commented that it was a pleasure to experience great facilitation at work, and several expressed appreciation for the productive and positive work we did together. We enjoyed working with Renee and would be happy to work with her in the future.”

At the end of our time working together you can expect that:

  • Board members feel a sense of clarity around the board’s strengths, challenges and next steps - and feel invested in the path ahead.

  • New board members bring fresh energy and ideas to the board table

  • Everyone feels clarity about board fundraising targets, expectations and roles.

  • Board and staff members feel that their time is being well-used.
